About this deal

This incredible quality balance bike ticked every single box for us and was quickly declared the “best bike ever” by our three-year-old tester, whose balance, handling and riding confidence improved massively while using it. Note the colour accent inside the downtube is actually moulded plastic, and while it's purely cosmetic, it's actually really nice when you're carrying the bike around on a cold day and you've not got any gloves on. There are no standard sizes for balance bikes, so pretty much every make and model is different – even if they have exactly the same size wheels. Balance bikes, designed to look like ordinary kids' bikes but without pedals, allow your toddler to master steering and balancing at speed, increasing their confidence in the saddle before the transition to pedalling. I would also love the ability to have her practice the handbrake before she gets to a pedal bike and using feet to stop are not an option.

Stand them against the wall (shoes on) with their legs hip-width apart and place a hardback book, spine up, between their legs. A balance bike simplifies the most crucial part of learning to ride, which is balancing on two wheels. Unfortunately, he kept placing his feet too far back on the footrest, which caused the heal of his shoe to rub on the rear tire. We love the cool, matte yellow and black styling – our five-year-old tester thought it looked like a motorbike, which is, in all honesty, the greatest compliment they could ever give a balance bike.Everything from the streamlined steel frame to the cream tyres and pastel-coloured rims looks amazing – you’ll be the envy of the playground on this! Hornit says that the tyres should already be inflated on arrival, but they may need topping up to the correct air pressure – this was the case with the model we received, which may be a downside for families who don’t own a lot of bike equipment.

Our child tester Brooke, 4, could see herself transitioning from balancing to pedalling on the LittleBig and said, "I can't wait to go to the forest to ride my bike and when I am older, I can use the pedals like the big kids do. A fun, quick, and nimble little balance bike, the Hornit AIRO offers plenty of fun in a small, lightweight package. It’s built to last, so a great model to pass down through siblings or to friends, and the resale market for Woom is huge, if you decide to sell it once it’s been outgrown. With wider set hands, minor movements on the wider handlebars won’t affect the overall steering and control of the bike as much as movements on a narrower bar.

Some other competitors in the balance bike market have height adjustment built into the steering stem, similar to an adjustable seat post.

Featuring a magnesium frame and air tires, the AIRO is one of the lightest balance bikes on the market making it perfect for the smallest of toddlers. pounds, the only balance bikes that are lighter seem to have foam filled tires (like the Bixe 12, weighing in at 4. Our reviewer appreciated that the instructions were written assuming no prior knowledge about bike maintenance, as cycling jargon can be intimidating for a newbie. It arrives set up as a balance bike; changing from balance bike to pedal bike and, particularly, from the small-size pedal bike to the bigger size is not difficult (the instructions are clear and tools are included).to keep them in the correct direction, a simple steering limiter prevents any accidental backwards riding. COLOURS – FLAMINGO PINK: a bundle of fabulous fun, this matte finish balance bike is perfect for when only pink will do! Altogether, the Hornit AIRO is that rare marvel: a balance bike clearly designed by cyclists to be a high-performance bike, not a toy. It has a really useful handle, which is great when their little legs get tired, and we end up carrying the bike! A true headset keeps the handlebars aligned better over time, and during minor crashes where a cheaper bike’s handlebars would often twist out of place.
