It did not occur to me before, but I remember now that I did not receive the first dagger until after I had spoken very strongly to Mrs.Dyers, turning towards her, "that the episode of the drawn daggers—drawn in a double sense—should be treated entirely on its own merits, considered as a thing apart from the loss of the necklace.
