On a trip to the US in May 1953, Fleming used his five-day travelling time on RMS Queen Elizabeth to correct the proofs of the novel. Boucher concluded that Live and Let Die was "a lurid meller contrived by mixing equal parts of Oppenheim and Spillane". In doing so, they followed the same train route Fleming had taken with his friend Ivar Bryce in July 1943, when Fleming had first visited the island. I knew that in the movies Leiter is badly attacked by a shark in Licence to Kill, but that’s like the 17th Bond film, so that I thought we would get more than 1. Funnily enough, I read this while watching the second series of Marvel’s Luke Cage, and it was quite interesting to see that although there were major changes in the way Harlem is depicted there was a lot that remained familiar as well.

Adrian Harrington began trading in 1971, as part of Harrington Brothers in the Chelsea Antiques Market on London's fashionable King's Road. Similarly, over the course of the book, the American character Leiter develops and also emerges as a more complete and human character and his and Bond's friendship is evident in the story. At the time of presentation he was producer and co-owner of the legendary Dragnet, the most successful police series on US television. Fleming’s ability to capture the violence of the moment is uncanny, and you can really feel every thud and crack as Tee-Hee falls to the floor below.Three identical states of the true first edition dust jacket were printed for this title with the exception of the one credit statement to the dust jacket designer, Kenneth Lewis, printed on the inside front flap.

Big, who uses fear of voodoo to control his followers and preys on racial solidarity to reap information from across the country, notes Bond's arrival and sends him a small bomb as a warning. James Bond has no time for superstition-he knows that this criminal heavy hitter is also a top SMERSH operative and a real threat. The dust wrapper is a very good or better example with the Kenneth Lewis blurb found to the lower portion of the front flap, denoting a first edition, second state copy. Bond reminisces on his run-in with SMERSH and questions to himself, “Was this appointment with M to start him on his trail of revenge?Bond becomes involved in the US through Mr Big's smuggling of 17th-century gold coins from British territories in the Caribbean. In New York, he and close friend Ernest Cuneo spent an evening with two police officers patrolling nightclubs in Harlem before embarking on an express train known as the Silver Meteor for St. The back of the dust jacket includes a blurb for Casino Royale, there is light toning to the inside edges.
