Cell Saver is very capable of damping vibration and will absorb and neutralise any damaging leaky battery acids. Agree and bottom line is the car manufacturer spent an extra 25 cents (maybe more) or so when building the vehicle to put it there, so there is a reason or they would not have. The degree to which we actually DO (or don’t do) these things varies, of course, because human beings are complex and mysterious creatures, after all.

I want the best for this little Fiat but, right now, I don't really know if making this insulation is worth. After months of delicately crafting EV modules, would you haphazardly slap the battery onto the undercarriage of your car? These kits usually have a plastic pad to go under the battery and adhesive material that applies directly to the battery. Now this could be due to the tracker I have fitted draining it but I doubt it, I'll do some drain current tests before taking the plunge. On my old diesel, I have the block heater, the battery heater, and the tender charger all wired to a single plug that I can use in very cold weather.Some countries control things better (differently) to others and knowing what is acceptable is crucial. The insulating blankets are actually installed by Honda more for insulation from heat than cold, but clearly they benefit a battery in both ambient extremes. Car batteries have no heat source, so an insulating blanket is only going to slow heat loss, a car battery sitting overnight will still reach ambient air temperature. If it is really cold and the truck or car will sit for more than a couple of days, I will put a battery charger on the battery (My CTEK smart charger has a cold weather function that I use for precisely this purpose. I don't know what type of battery that is but its not an Optima therefore I'd guess its a standard one therefore has the potential to vent hydrogen under heavy load, ie trying to crank a cold engine.

Taking measures to insulate your battery will prolong the life of the battery which inevitably is a money-saving activity. Fortunately it doesn't make big difference in oil temp on the road - I have kept eye on vans with and without oil pan insulation . Actually it was that thread where I saw the larger battery and lots of other great info such as the OBDELEVEN coding etc. I don’t need a plugin heater as the winters here are mild, just something to keep the chill off and doesn’t need removing before starting the car.

I reckon after 8 hours overnight at -4 you'll be hard pushed to detect any difference to the temperature outside the jacket.
