Description

Coffee scented fire logs are a cool concept, especially if you experiment when making your own bespoke coffee logs.

All Lekto products are fully certified according to Defra’s Ready to Burn wood fuel quality certification scheme, ensuring that you're not only getting a quality product but also contributing to a sustainable environment. Once you have enough briquettes place them in your wood burner and light your fire as normal and add briquettes as required. However, a fire at its coffee grounds recycling plant in Cambridgeshire in late March scuppered investment plans as vital machinery was damaged. I did suggest to Bio-Bean that they really ought to make it clear on their packaging that Coffee Logs are not currently approved for use in Smoke Control Areas. Eco roasting technology is paving the way forward to creating a cleaner and more sustainable coffee future for us all.The process starts with the consumer, enjoying a delicious cup of coffee in a coffee outlet – the coffee outlet is collecting the used coffee grounds in special (re-purposed) containers issued to them by their supplier. It may not be reproduced in any way whatsoever without the prior consent of Waitrose Limited nor without due acknowledgement. Coffee Logs contain a high amount of caffeine, which can be potentially harmful to humans and animals if ingested. The final stage of the process is the beans that have just been roasted, these are then quickly cooled, de-stoned and packed in valved bags to lock in the freshness. For step-by-step instructions, read this and bear in mind your DIY log is going to be more of a coffee slab than anything else (only industrial machinery is able to compress coffee into a solid log shape).

It is estimated that using coffee grounds as a fuel generates 80% fewer emissions than if they had gone to landfill. Each carbon neutral Coffee Log is made from the grounds of 25 cups of coffee and contains about 20% more energy than wood meaning it burns hotter and for longer than wood. In April 2023, Bio-Bean was forced into administration following a fire at their coffee recycling factory in Cambridgeshire. The regulations also bring in a new certification scheme (known as ‘Ready to Burn’) for manufactured solid fuels that are deemed ‘smokeless’. And recycling coffee waste generates 80% less emissions than landfill – so if you are looking to heat your home and not the planet, Coffee Logs are the perfect choice. Sustainable coffee logs supplier Bio-Bean has collapsed under the weight of inflationary pressures and a fire at its waste coffee recycling factory. Here's a photo of our little stove, now our pride and joy and much admired by all who see and feel the warmth. Each log contains the grounds from around 25 cups of coffee – and the manufacturers claim they burn 20% hotter and longer than kiln-dried wood.
