I really enjoyed the amount of magic in here, as I get a bit bored by so many low, to almost none, magic books. There are a few other character POVs, including Darien’s mother and Darien’s soldier friends at the front. This tale is a tad slow to start while the author gathers up his characters and sets the stage, but once the stage is set a wonderful show starts. She targets Kara, who is particularly vulnerable to evil fairy magic since she is related to the Dark Sorceress. The nations that comprise the Rhen seem to not bother supplying their guardians with anything except criminals, who are all then given rusted weapons to fight with alongside a promise that they won't survive more than a couple of years at best. It carries the reader from A to B at just the right pace without causing distraction, which for me is the best option. The other problem was that the person who you think is going to be the bad guy/gal from the start, actually isn't.

Darien survives by pure luck, but then, as the world's last surviving mage, he employs his wits to do whatever is necessary to stop the invasion of demons and their huge army, which his brother has unleashed. Except one infamous case, of course, and after that no one ever tried to become that powerful again. The best way to prevent a dark mage from being dangerous is to drain them through physical intimacy. You have a character sheet akin to those used in role-playing games that tracks your possessions, your special abilities, your coins, and your victory points. One city has an Egyptian or Persian ambiance about it, this creates a very exotic and mysterious setting. Style: I really enjoyed Nelson’s writing style, it was simple, yet conveyed necessary information and description. Seeing his reactions to the story is so insightful and intriguing and really helps us as readers learn more about his behavior and the why behind his actions.

Find out in Dark Mage by Rachel Roberts in her series Avalon Web Of Magic her 11th out of 12th book in the series. Said brother opens a portal to the netherworld and unleashes all kinds of hellish creatures on the real world. As he adjusts to his new life in the strange and foreign isle far from home, Dawyn experiences firsthand the terrifying power of dark magic and its wielders. The author gives us nothing from the viewpoint of the Enemy, which adds to their ominous reputation and leaves a lot of open questions. Overcome with the desire for revenge he starts adventuring while hiding his true identity but the world is a dog eat dog world and with some shocking secrets to know. Their courage will be tested, their friendship will be pushed to the limit—and one will become the Dark Mage. The tale begins with death and destruction and the opening of the Well of Tears which unleashes chaos upon the world, Eight Servants of Xerys; demons.

Without context, arbitrary power rankings are thrown about, and we're expected to swallow that Derian is one of the most powerful people ever, a thing which hasn't been done before? It is not necessary to read the first book, but if you plan to read both, you should read The Formerly Dark Mage first to avoid spoilers.Indie Focus: I am going to try and make these segment focused on indie books, because as an indie author myself I feel an obligation to spread the love.
