The family, whose experience dates back over 100 years, supervises all the vineyards, winemaking and ageing of this wine. In the unlikely event that you're not happy with your purchase, for whatever reason, then please do get in touch so that we can make amends. Dow’s LBV is full-bodied, rich but perfectly balanced with soft peppery tannins and with a fine acidity that ensure perfect balance on the palate.

On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, rich, and complex, with flavours of blackberry, black cherry, and hints of spice and tobacco. Dow's Quinta do Bomfirm Vintage Port is an exceptional wine that embodies the very best of Portugal's winemaking heritage. Dow’s Port is one of the most famous names in the Port trade and today is owned and managed by the fifth generation of the Symington family. Dow’s are known for their superbly concentrated wines; intense and tannic when young, maturing to a superlative racy elegance with violet and mint aromas. The company produces its wines from the Bomfim, Senhora da Ribeira, Cerdiera and Santinho vineyards. The whole Bomfim vineyard is ‘A-rated’, the highest quality grading conferred by the region’s wine regulatory body. The terroir is so diverse, from mountain to maritime vineyards, hot and dry to cool and green; producing Port, light whites to full bodied reds and delicious rosés.

Thus, we have developed this policy so that you can learn how we use cookies and how you can manage them. The vineyards are now almost entirely planted in varietal batches, meaning each variety may be picked and subsequently vinified separately, thus allowing for each grape’s maximum potential to be achieved. Dow’s Fine Tawny is a three-year-old blend aged in small oak casks at our lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia. This opaque purple-colored wine is not as developed or flamboyant as Fonseca, but it is super-concentrated and multi-layered, with huge masses of fruit and some tannin in the finish.Critic tasting note: (2019 vintage) "From the Bomfim vineyard in Pinhão, this vintage Port shows black jam and spice flavors.

The palate is super-smooth on the entry with plush, saturated tannins, quite spicy and peppery with an assertive, structured finish that is quintessentially Dow's. Senhora da Ribeira’s wines are some of the finest in the Douro and they complement those from Bomfim in the composition of Dow’s classic Vintage Ports. They will tend to mature a little earlier than the very rare ‘Declared’ years, but can be every bit as good as some other vintage ports. They've had a relationship with the Symington family which dates back to before the First World War and culminated in them taking complete ownership in 1961. The Symingtons opted to devise a mechanical means of replicating the proven method of foot treading. Dow’s Old tawny Ports are drier than most (although they retain the classic richness of all Port wines).
