About this deal

Granite sell the Stash multi-tool, the bar-end-based Stash chain tool and Stash plug tool all individually. This allows you to mix and match as you please.

Unlike some other steerer-stored multi-tools (OneUp’s EDC being the obvious example), the Stash RT doesn’t require you to take thread-tapper to your fork’s steerer. What happened? Awkward to try and plug can’t preload - Could not get stip to stay in tire liked the idea of abrasive/reamer along tool, but might be best on larger tires only.Because the unit is spring loaded it is a little more secure than the original Stash press fit design which relied on an O-ring. Below is our round-up of plug tools, our favorites as well as the ones that we tested but missed the mark. New version of the Granite Design Stash RT fits more forks, has a better pop-out function, and can accept Garmin/Wahoo/Bryton devices mounted via optional Scope RT cover. Closed Hello! The tool is spring-loaded tool and pops its little head up out of its recess when the top cover is rotated out of the way.

There are 3 different bolts to secure the housing in the steerer tube, you will need to measure your steerer tube to determine which one to use. Make sure there is a gap of 3mm from the top of the steerer tube to the top of the spacer. Take the housing with the correct bolt and drop in a long Allen key from the top of the housing, then slide it into the steerer tube. This will now stay in place ready for the next step. Take the bottom cap offer up to the bottom of the steerer tube and tighten the bolt from the top. Once installed, just make sure the top cap when closed, aligns properly and sits straight. The Stash is compatible with straight or tapered steerer tubes, fits steerer lengths’ from 150mm to 240mm and is relatively easy to install with a few simple tools. You have to remove the old star-fangled nut, which does require a bit of brute force and a long enough drift, but it did come out pretty easy on my Fox 38. The MultiTool itself offers 2-6mm hex keys, a T25 Torx and a flathead screwdriver. There are also four common sizes of spoke wrenches and a tubeless valve core tool. All items work, but obviously leverage is limited in such a fun size tool. I’ve really enjoyed testing the Granite Design Stash RT. Despite a couple of quirks, namely how the carrier can get caught if the bits aren’t aligned correctly and the not 100% foolproof installation, it’s proven to be an excellent improvement over its previous design and a tool worthy of a home in any bike’s steerer tube. The Stash RT is an excellent choice if you’re looking to move your tools out of your bag and onto your bike. With Stash RT, you can bid farewell to the days of lost hex keys and scattered tools. This innovative solution allows you to securely store your hex tools in a convenient, easy-to-access compartment. Whether you’re out on the trails or cruising through the city streets, your essential tools will always be at your fingertips. The bike is a Christmas present and so will not see any use for about 5 weeks as we are in November now. There are Park Tool spoke gauges 0, 1, 2, and 3 – corresponding to nipple sizes of 3.23, 3.30, 3.45, and 3.96mm – plus a valve core remover. They’re fiddlier to use than the main multitool but are nevertheless functional.

The only improvement we would like to see with the Stash Tool is adding an 8mm hex key. Nowadays, most bikes have an 8mm bolt somewhere, and with all other sizes accounted for, it would be the final piece to a well-rounded tool. The Stash RT tool does include an 8mm hex key; however, it does not include spoke keys or a flat head screwdriver. Granite Design Stash RT is a two-way ratchet wrench with nine tool bits. The revised housing now fits all modern forks with tapered steerer tubes, even those that have ovalised inner. These two gentlemen could not be any more accommodating if they tried, quality service that is a rare find in today’s crazy world, I can not recommend this company enough! Similarly, the multi-tool works as well as any other tiny tool. It’s comparable to the OneUp EDC tool in function, although OneUp has it beat in both leverage and length of the bits. The OneUp also has a makeshift 8mm hex, which may be helpful. Sometimes those stubby bits may present issues, such as reaching into recessed rear derailleur mounting bolts, but generally, the tool does what it needs to. The tool bits themselves are surprisingly good quality, and a micrometer proves they’re sized rather ideally and won’t do fastener damage. mountainsofsussex: I thought the most recent version of the OneUp tool doesn't require you to thread your headset, but instead it requires a different stem. Unless someone is very specific about their stem (I honestly don't get why there are so many out there) but does like to install the tool inside the steerer, I'd say that would be a good way to go. The Granite Stash RT presents a simple installation solution by eliminating the need for complex steerer tube mechanicals. This tool housing simplifies the process considerably. Gone are the days of tapping and struggling with installations. Now, all you have to do is remove the star nut and insert the tool housing directly into the steerer tube. We researched other brands and found that they were appalling quality straight out of the box and often more expensive too.
