Mariel Spark is prophesied to be the most powerful witch seen in centuries of the famed Spark family, but to the displeasure of her mother, she prefers baking to brewing potions and gardening to casting hexes. When a spell to summon flour goes very wrong, Mariel finds herself staring down a demon – one she inadvertently summoned for a soul bargain. I would not hesitate to recommend this book to others. I found this book to have the right combination of romance, humor, and magic featuring characters that I won’t soon forget. I cannot wait to read more of Sarah Hawley’s work in the future.

Mariel closed her eyes and thought about her spell. Magic incantations weren't spoken in Latin, much to her chagrin, since at least Latin had a logical structure. Magic had a language all its own-one that was frustratingly complex. It was full of roots pulled from dozens of languages, as well as some that seemed made up wholesale, and the rules of grammar and conjugation were chaotic at best. Sometimes she was tempted to light the dictionary on fire. What Mariel wanted was to feel like less of a failure. She wanted flowers and muffins and the contentment of being exactly enough for someone.”

Success!

Watching him fall for Caroline and open himself to joy in the process was a treat. And Caroline... oh, I would die for Caroline. Kind, generous, endlessly brave, and determined to share her whole heart with a world that doesn't always treat her with the care she deserves. These two wounded souls might not seem like an obvious match on the surface, but as in all great romances, their flaws and virtues make them a perfect fit. (And if Caroline would like to expand her portfolio of sugar babies, I am interested!) Her shoulders relaxed as soon as she inhaled the warm, fragrant air inside the greenhouse. "Hi, babies," she told the plants. She started watering them, testing the soil in each bed with her finger to ensure nothing was still damp. As she passed, the blossoms tilted towards her as if she were the sun.

If you’re craving some witchy vibes or want all the feelings of a cozy romance, then this is it.”—Culturess A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon by Sarah Hawley is a paranormal romantic comedy novel. The story in A Witch’s Guide to Fake Dating a Demon is a standalone novel that is told by changing the point of view between the main characters. I.... yeah. I don't like this new trend of witchy books with cutesy covers, they almost always disappoint.

Mariel Spark is prophesied to be the most powerful witch seen in centuries of the famed Spark family, but to the displeasure of her mother, she prefers baking to brewing potions and gardening to casting hexes. When a spell to summon flour goes very wrong, Mariel finds herself staring down a demon - one she inadvertently summoned for a soul bargain. This witchy girl is the Aquaman of plants. Her magical affinity for plants bonds them to her on an emotional level, allowing her to command plants to move or grow. My personal favorite thing about this is that they hug her when she’s sad. But plants can’t totally give Mariel what she wants in life. She wants to be enough for someone. Points for creativity?" Despite the joke, Calladia's wince was sympathetic. As a witch and Mariel's longtime friend, she knew how upsetting it was for Mariel to mess up a spell yet again. Calladia made a rude noise. "She's swimming in gold. She should support you without strings attached."

Whimsically sexy, charmingly romantic, and magically hilarious. This book put a spell on me and bewitched me, body and soul!”—Ali Hazelwood, New York Times bestselling author of Loathe to Love You I really loved the humor and set up for this story. Our heroine just wants to find a way to live the life she wants when she's thrown into an accidental soul with a demon (who has his own accidental human soul). There’s a lot of sex positivity in this book. I liked Oz and Mariel’s upfront, very intentional, sex talk. Body parts are described explicitly. Oz and Mariel are very honest and descriptive about what they find sexy. Thousands of tourists of all species descended on Glimmer Falls for the Autumn Festival, and it was one of Mariel's favorite times of year. Autumn's fiery shades swept over the majestic Cascade Mountains, and the town nestled into the foothills sparkled with magic shows.Mariel was no fun either, nor were her friends. The book basically circles around and around on how she is a failure and a disappointment. It was said so many times. And her mother was so weird and had no depth at all. All she did was talk about vagina's and sex. Like maybe it was meant to bring in humour but it was just a tad overdone. I loved the world in this book. There are magical libraries full of old medieval tomes about wyverns, succubi, dragons, and demons. There are dating apps called Bumbelina for magical creatures and a reality TV show called America’s Next Top Witch. I’m especially fond of the grumpy werewolf who owns a plant shop called Zev’s Plant Emporium.
