If you are sure that the Unifi Controller is available at https://unifi then we need to look further. A possible issue can be that the Access Point was connected to another controller or that the device was removed from this controller. Depending on your floor type you will need one for every floor or you can do with just one Access Point on the first floor or ground floor ceiling. If you have wooden floors, you could start with just one Access Point. Place it in a central location without any obstruction for the best coverage. When you have concrete floors, you will need to install an Access Point on every floor for decent coverage. The rebar and concrete weaken the signal too much for good coverage. In this case, the device is unable to resolve the controller. The controller should be available on https://unifi:8443. If that is working then there is a reason why the Unifi AP can’t connect to it. It might be in the wrong IP range (that was the problem in this case), or it can be a DNS issue.

The last step is to disable the wifi on your old router because the UAP is strong enough to cover your entire house. You can’t just unplug your router, you need it for your internet connection. To disable the wifi on your router, you need to log in to the admin interface of your router (most of the time you will find it on http://192.168.1.1 or http://192.168.1.254), find the Wireless settings, and turn it off. New Device Auto-Link allows wireless UniFi Protect cameras and IoT devices to be automatically visible for adoption. This setting used to enable a hidden “Element-xxxxxx” SSID, but it is now enables a hidden SSID with no name. This makes it easier to setup those devices, but can be disabled if you don’t need it. For dense networks with 4+ APs, 20 or 40 MHz width and a manual channel plan to minimize overlap usually leads to the best results. For normal home networks that prioritize speed, 40 or 80 MHz is usually best. If you have modern clients, a use case that would benefit from a several hundred Mbps, aren’t worried about interference or your Wi-Fi neighbors, or just wanna go fast: try 160 MHz. Effect: This enables 802.11v, which helps with saving power and the roaming process. It’s still up to the client device to support 802.11v and make a decision based on the given information.Virtual Ubiquiti Controller software interface (no expensive WiFi hardware controller/switch needed) Hi Rudy, thanks to both your guides I now have installed both an ERX router and a Unify AP AC LR. Both work great, but… I have one problem.

I then connected my Unifi Gateway Pro secondary WAN port to my LAN and configured the secondary WAN port to point the the 192.168.3.1 router. Transmit Power allows you to set TX power for your radios to low, medium, high, auto, or a custom value. The actual dBm values for low, medium, and high are based on the AP model and what they are capable of. IGMP Proxy and IPTV Support allows you to proxy multicast traffic across networks, setting a source network and networks that are allowed to receive it.Recommendation: For smaller networks with only a few APs and no need to limit which APs are broadcasting, use the default “All APs” group. For larger networks, group APs by area or function, and limit the amount of SSIDs as much as possible. Each additional SSID adds overhead and reduces capacity, so the less SSIDs the better.

Would you have any recommendations? Should I open firewall settings between AP and computer with controller maybe? All good thoughts are welcome! Probably the easiest way to solve this is by adding the AP to the VLAN10. But I don’t think that is the cleanest option. Also, I will give you some tips on choosing the right Unifi Access Point, where you should place your AP, and how to get the most performance out of your Unifi access points.

Ubiquiti UniFi Access Points Features

For high-density networks where careful channel planning is important, manual selection is best. For most networks, especially with less experienced administrators, auto channel optimization usually leads to good results.

The great thing about the Unifi range is that you get enterprise-class wifi for an affordable price. What you also will discover is that they are super easy to set up and manage. And if you like statics, you will get some great insights into your network as well. Which Unifi Access Point Should You Choose? UniFi APs have a limit of either 4 or 8 SSIDs per band, per AP group. Some older models like the AC-Lite only support up to 4 per band. Most models can have up to 8. This means you can have up to eight 2.4 GHz and up to eight 5 GHz networks, or eight dual-band SSIDs. The same applies to 6 GHz. Enabling IGMP Snooping can improve performance on networks that have streaming or smart home devices on them. On a guest network or a network without the need for it, IGMP snooping can be disabled. Vouchers : Provide guests with vouchers that can be used to authenticate. Customize vouchers to support various expiration times, bandwidth limits, or data consumption quotas. One UniFied Network: Option to create one large wireless network across multiple APs that lets users seamlessly roam.

Recommendation: Turn on if battery life is important, and older/IoT device connectivity is not. Disabling this is a good troubleshooting step if you have performance or connectivity issues.
