Description

The lens feels great in the hand. It feels very solid but not quite premium, and like I said above it also comes with an anodized lens hood. It’s the same 43mm thread as other Fuji lenses so it’s a pretty standard filter size if you are looking to attach filters. There is both an aperture ring and focus ring but no depth of field scale, so street photographers, take note. Optical performance

This is also is true of all the other XC branded lenses that Fujifilm have released so far.Unlike the XF version, this lens does not have a traditional aperture ring on the lens barrel, which allows you to set the aperture in 1/3 steps, complete with full aperture markings. Instead you have to change the aperture via the control dial on the camera body. The removal of the aperture ring does have the advantage of making this lens even shorter in length and lighter than its XF counterpart. Alright, enough with all the mumbo-jumbo! What does the IQ look like? Well I’m glad you asked that question, cause I’m here to give you tell you that it’s actually…. quite good! Disclaimer 2: All the images in this article has been shot using a very early prototype of the XC35mm f/2 lens. Image quality might therefore not be final.

It also looks much more appealing and fits higher-end Fuji cameras in design. It’s identical in image quality and autofocusing, though, which makes justifying the exact double price tag somewhat difficult. Verdict The twice-as-expensive XF 35mm f/2 has exactly this same performance, and for all I know, that's because it probably has the same optical design. It is placed below the XC 35mm f/2 on the Fujifilm lens lineup. Its optical design is identical to that lens, the difference lies in the better construction and weather-sealing of the XF version. The barrel is also plastic. One thing that users will probably notice right away is the missing aperture ring. Thats right. Aperture must be set using a camera command dial. No biggie for some. For others like me, it’s pretty goddamn annoying! I usually use the front command dial of my X-Pro3 as the ISO-dial, for fast exposure switching. When I have the XC35mm f/2 on there I need to switch between the two functions using a toggle-key. Full-frame owners often point to a Nifty Fifty lens—typically an inexpensive 50mm f/1.8—as the first one to get to supplement a basic zoom. The comfortable angle of view, bright aperture, and typical low asking price are the obvious reasons. The lens works with X-mount cameras from Fujifilm, all of which use the APS-C sensor size. That gives the XC 35mm a standard angle of view, about the same as a 50mm lens nets on a full-frame sensor. This lens is not weather-sealed. Because the front is not moving, though, I wouldn’t be afraid to use it in moderate rain – you won’t trap humidity easily inside the barrel. So finally now, the kit zoom lens wielding hobbyist can have a taste of that sweet prime lens greatness without breaking the bank. This was a super-smart move, and this lens is going to be a very important part of the system.
