Description

In 1907, Holmsley was the arrival point of Kaiser Willhein of Germany and his cabinet, to attend a conference with Major Stuart Wortley at Highcliffe Castle. The growing popularity of the cars in the 1950’s meant a serious assessment was made of the network, culminating in the now infamous Beeching Report in 1963. The trail passes along a disused railway line from Burley to Holmsley Tea Rooms which is in the old disused station. There are still a few remnants of the railway which are interesting features. Continue for about 75 metres before turning left along another clear woodland path beneath large beech trees.

Station Tea Rooms Holmsley History – The Old Station Tea Rooms Holmsley

We appreciate that you have enjoyed your visits in the past and that you consider our food to be excellent. You are not alone, as you saw on the 18th, we do get very busy. The 18th of June was Father’s Day, this is always in our top 5 busiest days of the year. Needless to say, many dads were getting treated to our excellent breakfasts. The new line was heavily promoted by Charles Castleman, a prominent local solicitor who saw the benefit and potential of the expanding rail network. Its winding route, taking in local market towns, earned it the name “The Corkscrew”, something is is still known as today. The line gained popularity in the early 1900’s with commuters and families alike, and was also an important freight depot for the transport of local wood for construction of Welsh coal mines. After bringing it to the attention of the staff, we were told that it “must have been a piece of the bag of flour that fell in the batter this morning, I wondered where that went.”We all understand it is work that needs doing and it is for the greater good but we have not been able to plan or have an understanding of what is going ahead," said Mr Jensen. There are many appealing areas of heathland and pine woodland in the south west corner of the New Forest and running through them is the Castleman’s Corkscrew. The business owner, who employees six full-time and around half a dozen part-time staff, said Mother's Day was the busiest day in the year.

June 1st 1847 saw the opening of the station at Holmsley. It was located where the line met the A35, the main route from Christchurch to Southampton, and referred to (until 1894) as Christchurch Road. A post shared by Rhinefield House Hotel, Hamps. (@rhinefieldhousehotel) on Sep 10, 2019 at 6:01am PDT Fantastic tea room normally, but at present they are building a bridge next door, so at times it has a contingent of the navvies therefrom using the tea room as their canteen, in their work clothes. On the way out we were tempted by the amazing looking sweet treats and ended up buying a lemon meringue pie & banoffee pie to take away... with us. Visit The Old Stationhouse Tea Rooms at Holmsley and enjoy freshly cooked food and refreshments in the heart of the New Forest. The Old Station Tea Rooms at Holmsley has suffered significantly since the work started on replacing the nearby road bridge. And then to top it all the hot chocolate was really poor quality and two of us left half a mug each. People are trying to get here but it is 10 or 15 miles out the way and an extra half an hour to get here." We hope you will visit again, you can book online or by phone up to 6 months ahead, or on 47 weekends of the year we should be able to squeeze you in without booking. Lovely afternoon tea - very good value and delicious. Plenty of food, more than we could manage easily 😂

Absolutely abysmal service. It was less... than half full inside, with nobody seated outside. We were shown to a table and left with menus (it was 3pm so we only wanted a cup of tea and a slice of cake each). The young girl disappeared to …More I think we had two weeks' notice and that was by a piece of A4 paper through the door, where as in the past Hampshire County Council communicated with us directly. Here’s our round-up of the 5 best cream teas in the New Forest. The Old Station Tea Rooms, HolmsleyWe popped in for a cooked breakfast and what a delight. Gorgeous food, especially the sausage & bacon. The Walk:The walk ispretty flat and beautiful. As it’s part of the New Forest, you can change your walk at almost any point, to make it longer or shorter. Facing three months of minimal trade, Mr Jensen scrapped plans for a refurbishment of the tea rooms.
