The author shared that the book came about because he and his wife lost two babies, and so they ended up adopting two that they named, Sam and Gilly. Anyone who's read this book knows the words that the mother is constantly saying to her son as he's sleeping- Edit: the moral of the story here is that growing up is necessary, endearing, and also bittersweet. You see a little boy grow up and the process repeated. It’s one of the more serious children’s books I have ever read. It’s something that is both good and a little depressing to think about. I really don't think it's good writing. With children's books I like them to have rhyme and rhythm and be easy to read. I felt like I was stumbling over words.

In fact, I think this was the first book EVER that gave me all the feels. I still remember the signature line from the book:So, the question is, is this book is sweet or creepy? And the answer for me is it’s mainly creepy. And I think that’s because the sweet and understandable parts don’t outweigh the creepy and red flag–waving ones. Like most things that you consume as a child, you don’t get the subtle and possibly unhealthy undertones until you’re an adult. It’s like finally getting all the adult jokes that made your parents laugh when you dragged them to all those animated films growing up. Robert Munsch was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He graduated from Fordham University in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in history and from Boston University in 1971 with a Master of Arts degree in anthropology.

While the mother does want to sell him to the zoo when he gets on her nerves at age nine, she loves her son all his life and makes it very clear to him. When he has a daughter, though we don't see much of her, he seems to be a loving father, singing her to sleep.

This book provides examples of:

A mother repeats this phrase to her son at night, continuing this as he grows up. Parents of even older children can relate. No matter how old they get, they are still yours and you love them. But at least now I know I can threaten to strap a ladder to the top of my car and pay them a midnight visit if they don't routinely call me. My recommendation is to read it first to yourself before you read it as a bedtime story for your kids. Love You Forever is the story of a mother and her son throughout the course of the boy's life; describing his exasperating behavior throughout his youth.
