Description

The circumstances of the Lion's return are shrouded in mystery; it's never revealed why he woke up when and where he did, or how he aquired his ability to forestwalk. The story is straightforward and while the Primarch’s life is never at stake, that’s not the point of the story. It’s a well-executed power fantasy where we watch him grow in personal strength and military power, taking his place as the defender of humanity you’d expect from the God-Emperor’s son. Dark Angels lore is explored and we learn things about the First Legion that move the fluff forward. Son of the Forest is a character study about the Lion — what is a Primarch, completely alone, out of time and without guidance? It explores his psyche while respecting his posthuman nature. And yet in these strange times the Lion can be certain of nothing and no one except for himself. But without the Emperor, without the Imperium, without his Legion and without Caliban… who is he?

Nope. The Imperium underwent large structural reforms after the Heresy, many of which were instituted by Gulliman. The Lion missed all of these. Its pretty different. Gulliman is a 31K character, The Lion is a 30K character. Now taking bets for which named Dark Angel will take mortal wounds, and be faced with the decision to die - or cross the perilous RUBICON PRIMARIS! Dun dun dunnn!

Aborted Arc: Early in the book, the Lion and Zabriel stumble upon the Thousand Eyes experimenting on captured space marines, and Baelor's first two point-of-view chapters mention that Seraphax has been trying to forcibly trigger the Blood Angel's Red Thirst. As soon as the Thousand Eyes learn about the Lion's survival, this plot is abandoned as Seraphax changes his plans to account for the sudden appearance of a Primarch. Shapeshifter: The Lion encounters one in the forest; it takes the form of each of his brothers in turn, forcing the Lion to fight them. At the end of the day, I want to avoid grimdark for the sake of grimdark. That's just not my bag and I think the setting has evolved from its much more satirical roots.

Los marines espaciales también lo son, y eso me encanta llegan a tener cierto grado de humanidad si bien estos mismos se separan de los humanos Yet another solid entry by Mike Brooks, this novel centered on the titular Lion, returned Primarch for the Dark Angels, is quite an enjoyable read which, while not answering every question posed or raised over the course of the novel, does enough with its characterization of the new older, wiser Lion, his relationship with his sons who he had condemned to die, and the new state of the galaxy at large was a treat to behold.

At the end of the book, he beheads Baelor to spare him a long, painful death from of Seraphax's poison. Zabriel and Baelor are both devoted Number Twos to their respective masters, but Zabriel is initially distrustful of the Lion before coming to respect him, while Baelor is utterly devoted to Seraphax before betraying him at the very end. Co-Dragons: Baelor and Markog are both Seraphax's top lieutenants, though Markog is perpetually envious of what he perceives as Baelor's higher status. Technique is deployed very well too, and in a way that advances the characters. The Lion's portions are told in the third-person present, showing his dynamism and focus, but also how he wants toWe Can Rule Together: At one point, Baelor extends to Zabriel the offer to join the Thousand Eyes; Zabriel, of course, immediately rejects him. Games Workshop has attracted a lot of new fans thanks to the Horus Hersey series, and Son of the Forest is the best way for those in 30K to jump into the 40K lore. For long-time fans of the far future, the Lion’s return is everything you could have hoped for: a glimmer of hope that nonetheless respects the setting. Well, characters can always double-down on their flaws. You could call that negative growth. The most interesting development may be a mixture of negative and positive growth.
